Citizenship for truck drivers

How to get your CBSA and US travel history for citizenship

Immigration rules change often. Confirm current IRCC requirements before you apply, or ask me to review your situation.

Accurate travel history is the backbone of a citizenship or PR card application, especially if you travel often. These are the main official sources.

Canadian records (CBSA)

You can request your travel history from the Canada Border Services Agency through the Government of Canada's access to information and privacy (ATIP) online service. You will typically provide your identity details and passport information and say which period you need. One important limit: Canadian records may not show every date you left Canada (overview).

US records (CBP)

  • I‑94 travel history: available online and quick, but covers only recent years.
  • FOIA request: the way to request a fuller history. Processing times vary.

Your own records fill the gaps

For truck drivers, logbooks or ELD data, dispatch records, trip reports and pay stubs often show exact crossing dates that official records miss.

Tips

  • Request records early. Processing can take weeks.
  • Request the full 5 year period you need, plus a little extra.
  • Check every record for errors before relying on it.

Once you have your records, the next step is building one master list. See how to list hundreds of border crossings.
